Dedham man arrested on OUI, gun charges

A call to the Canton Police Department for a suspicious motor vehicle led to the arrest of a Dedham man last week for drunk driving and multiple firearms violations.

The incident occurred on Washington Street in the early morning hours on Saturday, November 1. According to Deputy Police Chief Patty Sherrill, when officers responded, they determined that the driver was intoxicated.

While conducting an inventory of the vehicle, officers found three firearms that the suspect was not properly licensed to possess, one of which was not properly stored. The suspect was charged with OUI liquor, three counts of possessing a large capacity firearm, and a single count of improper storage of a firearm.

Firefighters respond to Wayside Ln. house fire

Damage was significant but fortunately no one was injured after a fire broke in the basement of a home on Wayside Lane on Monday, November 3, at approximately 9 p.m.

A resident of the home called 911 to report the fire, and all occupants were able to safely evacuate prior to firefighters arrival. The initial crew found fire showing from a rear basement window and were able to extinguish the main body of fire while a second line was advanced through the front door of the home and down to the basement.

As of Tuesday, the cause of the fire was still undetermined. Fire Lt. John Hutchinson said that damage to the property and contents was estimated at $200,000. Fire crews from Stoughton, Randolph, and Sharon assisted at the scene while Norwood firefighters covered Station 1. Fire Chief Wendell Robery and Deputy Chief Andy Morgan also responded as did the town’s building and wiring inspectors.
