Canton students gearing up for Cantonstock 2025

CHS student musicians, under the direction of Brian Thomas, rehearse for Cantonstock.

The campus at Canton High School will come alive with music on Saturday, November 1, as Canton Public Schools’ music booster group MusicCounts! puts on its largest fundraiser of the year — Cantonstock. The program runs from noon to 4 p.m. and will feature performances by students in grades 4-12.

“We hope community members, students and families, along with our alumni will consider joining us for this incredible event,” said MusicCounts member Kristin Masciarelli. “Music is such an important part of a student’s development, and we are proud to be able to support music education for all Canton students.”

In addition to performances, the day will feature games, face painting, food and raffles and will take place rain or shine.

MusicCounts was founded in 2001 and is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that raises money to supplement the CPS Performing Arts Department budget. In the past few years, the group has purchased two violas and violins for the elementary schools, a piano and chimes for the high school, a new sound system, electric guitars, and covered transportation and fees for dozens of high school and middle school students to participate in district and all-state ensembles. The group estimates it has impacted nearly 2,000 students during the last school year alone.

“We are so appreciative of the work MusicCounts has done for our students for almost 25 years now,” said CPS Performing Arts Coordinator Catherine Eckersley. “Music is a vital part of a student’s learning experience and helps provide cognitive enhancement, improves social skills, and promotes discipline and creativity among other things. We hope to see all of Canton at this year’s Cantonstock.”

There is a $1 admission per person for non-performers.
