Romanelli, Carol A.

By

Carol Ann Romanelli (Hagen), 83, passed away on September 27, 2025, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.

Carol was born in Forest Hills to Laura and Albert Hagen. The family settled in Canton, where she would meet her many lifelong friends and her future husband, who happened to be the boy next door.

Carol was the beloved wife of the late Joseph S. Romanelli. She is predeceased by her daughter, Carol Marie Romanelli, and brothers Paul Hagen of Brockton and Albert Hagen of Portland, Maine. She is survived by her daughter, Leigh Ann Romanelli of Canton, her brother Richard Hagen and his wife, Beverly, of Canton, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Carol was a devoted parishioner at St. John’s Church, now St. Oscar Romero Parish. She worked for several years at the rectory and was active in church activities, including the grief ministry and interfaith gatherings. She was also a regular at Adoration, Stations of the Cross, and the Saturday 4 p.m. Mass. As her memory started to decline, it amazed us that she never missed a Mass. She truly loved being at her church.

Carol was a lover of all animals. Over the years, she and her husband, Joe, adopted and cared for a variety of animals, including cats, dogs, rabbits, chickens, ducks, peacocks, and one pony.

Carol will be best remembered for her compassion and dedication to the many seniors in her care as an elder companion. She did not view anyone as a client — always a friend who was welcome at her home. Over the years, many of these new friends spent Thanksgivings and Christmases at the Romanelli home. Everyone was welcome there.

The family wishes to express its profound gratitude to the Hellenic Nursing and Rehab for nearly seven years of care provided to Carol and for preserving her dignity every step of the way. To the Unit A nurses and aides, activities staff and social services, we thank God every day there are people like you. Please keep being you!

Visiting hours are at the Pushard Family Funeral Home, 210 Sherman Street on Thursday (today) from 9 to 10:30 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Oscar Romero Parish. Interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carol’s memory to the MSPCA at mspca.org or the New England Wildlife Center at newildlife.org.
