Julie Ann Whalen, 54, of Canton, passed away on August 30, 2025. Born on October 19, 1970, Julie was described by all who knew her as gentle, thoughtful, and loving. She was a woman whose presence was a gift to all who met her. With a ready smile and a kind word, Julie made the world a better place, and her thoughtfulness brought joy and comfort to many.

Originally from Allston, Julie was proud of her roots in the Charlesview Community, and for decades enjoyed and maintained friendships formed during her childhood. After graduating from Saint Columbkille High School in Brighton, Julie earned an associate’s degree from Aquinas Jr. College in Newton. Most recently, Julie enjoyed success as a logistics manager for Intransit Container. Her professional life was marked by dedication and excellence, earning the respect and admiration of her colleagues.

Julie was a longtime resident of Canton, where she raised her amazing son, Brady Gibbons. Julie and Brady shared a passion for baseball, and she enthusiastically encouraged and supported Brady’s scholastic and baseball career. A lifelong Red Sox fan, Julie was more than just a season ticket holder; she was part of the Fenway Park fabric. During football season, Julie was a loyal supporter of the New England Patriots and often enjoyed attending games in Foxboro with her crew. She cherished the moments spent cheering on her teams with Brady by her side.

Julie loved music, especially live performances by bands like Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, and Too Rude, and she enjoyed sharing those experiences with friends and family. Her appreciation for history, antiques and the beauty of craftsmanship, combined with her flair for interior design, allowed her to find great joy in transforming her house into a home. Julie loved old, classic cars and attending NASCAR races. She cherished her memories of summers on Lake Winnipesaukee, cruising in her grandfather’s wooden Sea Ray boat.

The bonds of friendship and family were extremely important to Julie, and helped shape how she lived her life and instilled values in her son.

Julie was the beloved daughter of the late Carol (Arenburg) Paris and the late James J. Whalen, Sr. Predeceased by her older brother James “Jimbo” Whalen, Jr. in 2022; Brady’s dad, Kevin Gibbons, in 2020; her aunts Annmarie Whalen and Barbara Kohl; and her uncle Bobby Cassesso.

She is survived by her son, Brady Gibbons, of Canton; her sister Michelle Whalen of Wilmington; her brother John and his wife, Raeann Whalen, of Burlington; her sister Katelyn Whalen of North Andover; her aunts and uncles Terry Whalen and Al Randall, Maureen and Steve Whalen, Shirley Cassesso, and Bruce and Robert Arenburg; her cousins Jim, Steve and Alicia Whalen, Alex Randall and his wife, Cassidy, and Rob and Michael Cassesso. Julie had a very special place in her heart for her niece Olivia and nephew Colin.

Julie’s passing has left an enormous void in the lives of her extended family, and many friends who all adored her. She was a loyal friend and a trusted confidante. Her humor and laughter drew others to her. Julie will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her.

“To live in the hearts we leave behind is not to die.”  –Thomas Campbell (1777–1844)
