Public roundtable set for Sept. 29
By Canton CitizenThe Article 30 Bylaw Modernization Committee invites the public and all committee members to an upcoming roundtable discussion to gather input on how to modernize the bylaws related to annual and special town meetings. The goal is to create a more efficient and effective process for the entire community.
The first of two public input sessions will take place on Monday, September 29, at 7 p.m. in the Salah Meeting Room at Town Hall. A second date will be announced in the fall for additional input and discussion.
Participation in this forum is a crucial step in modernizing the town’s governance. The committee is seeking broad community feedback and new ideas on several key topics that may directly impact the efficiency and accessibility of town meetings.
Topics for discussion will include electronic voting at town meetings; moderator appointment/election; the article reconsideration process; committee responsibilities; and scheduling and timing of town meetings.
The committee believes that public engagement is vital to this process and encourages all residents — whether or not they have previously participated in town meeting — to attend and share their perspectives. “Your insights are crucial to this process,” said Bylaw Committee Chair George T. Comeau. “We want to hear your ideas on how we can make our town meeting process better and more inclusive for everyone.”
Established in 2024, the Bylaw Modernization Committee is tasked with codifying, reviewing, and proposing updates to the town’s bylaws, with a focus on improving both clarity and functionality. The committee is made up of citizens and municipal employees who guide this public process.
