CHS Athletics Dept. shares summer update
By Canton CitizenCanton High School’s strength and conditioning coach Mark Erickson is excited to announce the training schedule for the summer 2025 offseason. The program is offered free to all CHS students.
“This is a great opportunity,” said Erickson, “especially for those of you who compete in a fall sport to improve yourselves as athletes and create as much strength, speed, agility, and power as possible, so you show up to tryouts and practices in the best shape you’ve been in to date.”
Erickson will also be sending out a Cardio Conditioning Program for student-athletes to do on their own or with their teammates.
The summer strength and conditioning program officially began this week with facilities open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 6 a.m. for all athletes, 7 a.m. for female athletes, and 8 a.m. for male athletes. Although the program is free, registration is required via the sign-up page at students.arbitersports.com.
In a related announcement on the CHS Athletics Blog, AD Danny Erickson posted a reminder that none of the summer activities available to athletes are mandatory, including the strength and conditioning program — the only official activity offered at CHS during the summer. Erickson stressed that all local camps, leagues and clinics are optional and are in no way associated with CHS.
He also noted that “captains’ practices” are not within the rules of the MIAA and are not school sponsored or monitored. “We understand and encourage our kids to get together to train in their off-seasons, but not as official captains,” he said. “Parents/guardians should be aware that there is no adult supervision at these get-togethers.”
“Now go out there and pound the rock!” urged Erickson. “Work hard all summer and get better at your sport/craft! You won’t see the improvements daily, but in eight weeks, the work will really show.”
