We want to thank the Canton community and supporters from multiple towns for helping to make the fourth annual Anthony Maffie Memorial Walk for CURE Epilepsy our best one yet! The walk was held again this year at Anthony’s elementary school, the JFK. More than 120 walkers braved the rain on June 7 to walk the neighborhood route marked with donor-sponsored signs aimed at educating others about epilepsy and honoring those lost to SUDEP.
In addition to the walk, more than 25 raffles exceeding $5,000 in value were donated and helped raise more money. We thank the following businesses who generously donated to our raffles: Rodman Ford, Salon Monique, Launch, Honey Dew, Wendy’s, Northern Spy Restaurant, Universal Power Yoga, Open Doors Canton, Marissa’s Floral Shoppe, Martha’s Sweet Treats, X Golf, Liquorwicks by Freddy Freeman, Chris Coy from AutoMall Service Center, Kelsey and Bill from Elite Health and Fitness, Randy and Ralph from Polillis, and Erin Connollly’s Rosey Design Company. In gratitude to ATS Equipment and Steve Connolly, Dorchester BioMedical, Congregational Church of Canton, Canton Firefighters Local 1580, and the Pineo and MacDonald family for their generous monetary gifts to CURE Epilepsy. We raised an incredible $28,500 — which is almost double what we raised last year!
Anthony Maffie died on January 4, 2019, at the age of 22, from Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP). Since 2021, we have honored Anthony’s life by fundraising for CURE Epilepsy. The walk is aimed at raising money for CURE and increasing public awareness of SUDEP, especially among the medical community caring for patients with epilepsy. This gathering is another opportunity to share stories about Anthony and helps make these walks more meaningful to us while honoring him and keeping his legacy strong. With immense gratitude,
Lisa, Bobby and Austin Maffie
