Tri-Town PMC Kids Ride returns to ICC

By

PMC Kids Riders take off at the starting line at last year’s event.

Local kids from Canton and surrounding towns are invited to a morning of outdoor fun, achievement, and support for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute at the ninth annual Tri-Town PMC Kids Ride on Saturday, June 21, at the Irish Cultural Centre in Canton.

Organizers are hoping to increase last year’s ridership and community engagement as they welcome friends, schoolmates and neighbors to participate or volunteer. Already, the event is on track to surpass last year’s fundraising totals.

Riders will decorate their bikes and enjoy face painting, upbeat music and snacks, win raffle prizes, play games, and take pictures in the photo booth. All kids get a t-shirt and goodie bag and ride for up to 90 minutes while making new friends.

There are also new opportunities this year for kids to register and ride with the PMC Kids team (including parents) at the Canton Heritage Fest this weekend, May 17, and the Memorial Day parade on Monday, May 26. Attendees at the June 15 Canton Farmers Market will also have a chance to meet the ride’s organizers and win prizes.

Again this year, in addition to each riders’ personal reasons, the Tri-Town PMC riders are also riding collectively for their pedal partner, 5-year-old Kieran Whall, who has just completed his two-year treatment program at Dana-Farber and is now cancer free! Cancer has touched many of us personally in some way, and as a community, whether riding in tribute, supporting a loved one in treatment or cheering on the kids doing their best, this event is a great way to participate and show your support.

An added benefit for those who attend the PMC Kids Ride is seeing all of the smiling faces riding with determination and purpose. In addition to a t-shirt and goodie bag, each rider will have an opportunity to announce who they are riding for and will receive a certificate of appreciation. WROR radio is planning to be at our event again this year, keeping the kids ride rock’n & roll’n on the protected campus of the Irish Cultural Centre/TreeTop Adventures.

Everyone (on wheels) is welcome! Little ones can drive scooters and tricycles on the small loop, while larger bikes can ride the half-mile, monitored loop around the ICC fields. Parents, guardians, or older siblings are also welcome to be “ride monitors” to keep riders on a safe and even pace. Those families living further away or on vacation can still register with Tri-Town and ride virtually from your own neighborhood. Members of the Canton Police and Fire departments will also be on site to review safe riding habits and offer helmet checks and bike tune-ups.

The Tri-Town PMC Kids Ride would not be possible without the support of its sponsors, headlined by Gold Sponsors Your Mobility Matters, Bill’s Auto Repair, Boston Mutual Life Insurance Co., Bright Horizons, Kiddie Academy, Wegmans of Westwood, and A-Zoulias Environmental Enterprises.

To register as a rider or volunteer, sponsor a rider or make a donation, visit kids.pmc.org/tritown. PMC is a registered 501c3 nonprofit, and every rider-raised dollar goes directly to cancer treatment and research at Dana-Farber. For more information, email TriTownPmcKids@gmail.com.
