Canton DPW announces 2025 construction schedule

By

Canton DPW Superintendent Mike Trotta has announced the roadway and water-sewer projects for the 2025 construction season.

The schedule includes paving projects on Randolph Street (mid-June to mid-August) and Bolivar Street (September to October); installation of a new traffic light at the intersection of Randolph and York streets (June to mid-September); and replacement of the culvert and retaining wall near 20-22 Elm Street (mid-June to late August), with the latter project necessitating road closures on Elm Street from Dedham to Pecunit streets.

Also, the state Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has begun work on the Revere Court bridge replacement, a major undertaking that is expected to take two years to complete.

Other projects include a water main replacement on Sherman and Fuller streets; drainage improvements on Indian Lane; and reclaiming and paving on Ames Ave., Carriage Lane, Chapel, Crane, Cross and Endicott streets, Old Ridge Road, Pierce Place, and Randolph and Valley terraces. Also scheduled for milling and paving work are Blackman Road and surrounding streets.

Information on all planned DPW projects can be found at town.canton.ma.us/1015/Construction.

MV crashes lead to closures on Pleasant Street, Rte. 138

A stretch of Pleasant Street had to be closed to traffic last Thursday after a pickup truck collided with a telephone pole just past the roundabout at approximately 4:30 p.m. Firefighters/paramedics and crews from Eversource responded to the scene, and one person was transported to an area hospital.

Two days earlier, at approximately 12:20 p.m. on May 7, Canton Firefighters Local 1580 reported that Route 138 had to be closed near the Blue Hills Trailside Museum on the Canton-Milton line after a bicyclist was stuck by a car. A Canton ambulance and the Fire Department’s Blood Transfusion Unit responded to the scene, and the patient, a 60-year-old male who was unresponsive upon paramedics’ arrival, was transported to a Boston trauma center.
