Shannon, William H.
By Canton CitizenWilliam H. “Bubba” Shannon passed away unexpectedly on April 25, 2025. Billy was a lifelong resident of Canton and worked for 16 years for Cafco Construction in Boston as a laborer until that work took a toll on his body and forced retirement. Subsequently, he was the dutiful caregiver for his late mother for many years at her Canton home for which the family will be forever grateful.
Early on, Billy enjoyed playing softball in Canton and the surrounding towns, loved biking, running (and sunbathing). Also, Bill annually took trips to visit his brother Jack in California. Notably, he was also a beloved friend and teammate with the legendary Captain Morgan flag football team, which won many championships in the Stoughton flag football league and the notorious K-Raiders street hockey team.
Son of the late Mary and David Shannon, Bubba was one of 15 siblings, including James P. Shannon of Norton, Maureen G. Humphrey of VA, Paul J. Shannon of Wareham, Robert E. Shannon of North Attleboro, Michael G. Shannon of OH, John G. Shannon of CA, Mary Kay Melvin of Canton, Christopher M. Shannon of Mansfield, Theresa M. Marino of Bellingham, and Matthew P. Shannon of the Republic of Colombia, as well as his late brothers Thomas P. Shannon, Richard A. “Ricky” Shannon, and David L. “Buddy” Shannon and his late sister Regina M. Newcomb. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be private at St. Mary’s Cemetery on June 7. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Adult & Teen Challenge New England and New Jersey, 1311 Main St., Brockton, MA 02301, or online at tcnewengland.org in honor of Billy’s memory and commitment to helping others find hope and healing.
