Power, Grace E.

Grace E. Power, a cherished matriarch and beacon of love and strength, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2024, at the age of 102. Born on August 16, 1922, in Boston, Grace was a woman of remarkable resilience and character whose light shone brightly throughout her life.

The daughter of the late John, who departed too soon when Grace was just 3 years old, she was lovingly raised by her mother, Ellen, alongside two siblings, John and Eleanor, in the Roslindale neighborhood. Grace’s formative years were filled with the warmth of family and the nurturing environment of her community, which shaped her into the compassionate and caring individual she was known to be. At the age of 18 she was named Ms. Roslindale.

Grace graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Jamaica Plain, an accomplishment that set the stage for her lifelong love of learning and personal growth. Her career as a dedicated secretary for an insurance company spanned many years, where she was respected for her diligence, warmth, and unfailing professionalism.

In her personal life, Grace was the beloved wife of the late Paul F. Power, a proud retired deputy superintendent of the Boston Police Department, with whom she shared a profound and enduring love. Together, they raised a family of five remarkable children: Paul “Dennis” Power and his wife, Mariamercedes, of Lompoc, CA, Leslie Byrnes and her husband, Bill, of Norton, Stephen Power and his wife, Suzanne, of Wolfeboro, NH, Kevin Power (retired BPD) and his wife, Jan, of Marshfield, and the late Mark Power and his wife, Margaret, of Norfolk. Grace’s role as a devoted mother was central to her life, and she instilled in her children the values of kindness, perseverance, and faith. Grace was also a loving grandmother to 12 grandchildren, a great-grandmother to five great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandmother to one great-great-grandchild.

Grace’s strong faith was a cornerstone of her existence. As an active member of St. Pius X in Milton, she found great solace and joy in her church community. She was also a vibrant part of the High Flyers, a social club, with St. Pius X, where she shared her spirit and enthusiasm with others.

One of Grace’s most endearing qualities was her thoughtful nature. She had a remarkable ability to remember special occasions, diligently writing cards for birthdays, holidays, and to offer support during challenging times. Even at the impressive age of 101, Grace continued this loving tradition, touching the lives of countless friends and family members with her words of encouragement and affection.

Grace’s interests and activities were a testament to her zest for life and her commitment to fostering connections with those around her. Her involvement in various community and church activities brought her much happiness and provided her with a sense of purpose and fulfillment.

As we remember Grace E. Power, we celebrate a life well-lived — a life filled with love, service, and unwavering faith. Her legacy is one of love and kindness, a legacy that will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate enough to have known her.

Grace’s passing marks the end of an era, but her spirit will live on through the memories she created and the impact she had on everyone she encountered. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were touched by her generous heart and radiant smile.

A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Grace E. Power will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those she leaves behind. May she rest in eternal peace, reunited with her loved ones who have gone before her, in the grace and love of the Creator she so fervently believed in.

Visiting hours will be held at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street, on Thursday, December 12 (today) from 4-7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 13, at 10 a.m. in St. Oscar Romero Church in Canton. Burial at Knollwood Memorial Park.
