Piana, Antoinette R.
By Canton CitizenAntoinette Rose (Taddeo) Piana, 94, of Canton, passed away Thursday afternoon, October 3, 2024, in her residence surrounded by her loving family.
The beloved wife of the late Renzo Piana, Antoinette is survived by her loving children, Peter (Patty), Roberta, John (Kim), Joseph (Ann Marie), Pauline (Kevin) and Paul (Michelle); her cherished grandchildren, Pete, Chris (Nikki), Jill (Matt), Jenn, Joey (Kate), Sr. Airman Matthew, USAF, Caroline (Tyler), Camille (Matt), Paul and Brian; her adoring great-grandsons, Aiden, Liam and Renzo; her dear sisters Rita and Rose Taddeo; and her special friend Harry the Cat. She is also survived by her many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews, cousins and extended family.
Part of a large family, she was predeceased by seven siblings. Born in Newton, she was the daughter of the late Lucas A. Taddeo, Sr. and Concetta (Giacci) Taddeo. Antoinette was raised in the Nonantum neighborhood, or as it’s affectionately called, “The Lake,” and attended Newton schools. As a young woman she went to work at Raytheon, helping to take care of her mother and siblings, often buying them clothes and gifts. While on a vacation on Cape Cod, she met her future husband, Renzo. They would be married in 1955, moving to Canton to start her married life and raise a family.
Antoinette and her late husband operated Piana’s Flower Shop for 50 years; it was a true family business. While working at the flower shop she still took care of six kids, and always had three meals on the table and clean clothes to wear, especially undershirts.
Antoinette’s greatest joy was her family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved taking her mother and family to Newport, spending the day at Breton Point, bringing her famous peppers and eggs. She especially enjoyed the holidays spent with family, always having too much food and plenty of love and laughter. You could hear her laugh a mile away and see her smile even farther away. An incredible cook, she enjoyed showing her children and grandchildren how to make her meatballs, Italian cookies, and other family favorites, including her pineapple cream pie.
Antoinette was a woman of strong faith and a devout Catholic. She bowled, golfed, and loved watching Patriots games where her kids would get overly excited and make her laugh, even though she did not understand football.
After the passing of her husband, Antoinette went on to work at the former Norwood Hospital. Generous with both her time and treasure, she developed many lifelong friendships. Her generous spirit, laughter and grace will be missed by all those who loved and knew Antoinette. Her legacy is carried on by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Old Colony Hospice for the care and support provided to Antoinette and her family. A Mass of Christian burial was held Monday in St. Oscar Romero Church in Canton. Interment Canton Corner Cemetery. Arrangements by the Pushard Family Funeral Home, 210 Sherman Street. For those who wish, donations in Antoinette’s memory may be made to St. Oscar Romero Parish or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
