The spring season is just getting started, but there has been no shortage of offensive firepower coming out of Canton already, powered by a hot-hitting CHS softball team with talent up and down the batting order.

In a close loss to North Attleboro in Monday’s season opener, the Bulldogs managed six runs while getting multi-hit games from three different players: Anna Lehan, Jess Wright, and Sam Grady.

A day later, the team then headed to neighboring Sharon, where they exploded for 18 runs on 16 hits en route to their first win of the spring. Lehan and Wright again had multi-hit games for Canton, and they were joined this time by teammates Kailyn Durham, Chloe Guerschuny, Laura Valkanas, and Delaney Clegg. They also got good pitching from Shannon Lane and Reilly MacEachern as the Bulldogs rolled to an 18-5 victory.

Meanwhile, on the same day that the softball team routed the Eagles, the lady Bulldogs’ lacrosse team did the same to the Milford Hawks in a 17-1 road victory, with senior Devan Spinale recording her 100th career goal.

Also picking up their first wins this week were the CHS baseball and boys lacrosse teams, who edged NA and Milford, respectively, in closely contested games on the road. The baseball team rode the arm of Kyle Redquest, who threw a complete-game, three-hit shutout, while the boys lax team got a big game from senior goalie Patrick Drury along with multi-goal performances from Colin Blake, Dillon Albert and Cullen O’Brien.

Joining the victory party on Tuesday were both Bulldog track teams, who combined to outscore Foxboro 183-89 in a dual-meet sweep at home. The only teams still in search of their first win after one week of action are the boys and girls tennis teams, who are both coming off shutout losses to Sharon, a perennial power in tennis.

The boys will be back in action today in a nonleague home match against Cohasset, while the girls are busy preparing for a home match Monday against Taunton.
