News Notes: CFD probes fire at Windsor Woods

Canton Fire and Police, in conjunction with the State Police Fire Investigation Unit attached to the state Fire Marshal’s Office, are investigating what has been termed a suspicious fire that broke out at the Canton Lacrosse field house on Windsor Woods Lane on Wednesday afternoon, March 20. The investigation so far has determined that the porta potties outside the building were set on fire before spreading to the roof space inside the field house.

Fire Lt. John Hutchinson said firefighters were able to access the building and extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported and damage to the town-owned building was estimated at approximately $150,000. A K9 was brought to scene and investigators are viewing security footage from the property manager. The building commissioner and town wiring inspector also responded to secure the utilities and the building. Crews remained on scene for two and a half hours while off-duty personnel covered Station 1.

Police issue summons for B&E suspect

A 43-year-old Brockton man will be summoned to court to face charges of breaking and entering (misdemeanor) and threatening to commit a crime after he allegedly entered a home on Pequit Street uninvited on Sunday, March 17, and made threats to the homeowner. According to Deputy Police Chief Patty Sherrill, the suspect, Alan Lee Cole Jr., had gone to the residence in search of his ex-girlfriend, who is a known acquaintance of the homeowner. Cole had left before police responded and the homeowner was unharmed.

Roslindale man arrested for disturbance on Pleasant St.

Canton police arrested a 44-year-old Roslindale man in the early morning hours on Wednesday, March 20, after he allegedly caused a disturbance at his former residence on Pleasant Street, alarming the residents inside the home. Deputy Police Chief Patty Sherrill said the suspect, William J. Mason, began shouting while knocking on the windows and doors of the residence. When officers arrived, they discovered that Mason had also broken into the shed in the rear of the property. Mason was charged with disturbing the peace, breaking and entering (misdemeanor), and resisting arrest.
