Luce presents Finding Nemo

The stage at Canton High School’s Morse Auditorium was transformed into the Great Barrier Reef when almost 70 fourth and fifth graders from the Luce Elementary School put on Finding Nemo Jr. last weekend. The plot follows a clownfish named Nemo as he leaves the safety of his anemone home only to be caught by scuba divers. Chaos ensues as a forgetful Blue Tang named Dory helps Nemo’s father Marlin reunite with his son.

“I am so proud of all the students who have participated in this show,” said Director Julie Goodrich. “They have worked hard learning their lines and [stage] blocking and helping us create choreography.”

Goodrich also credited a group of parents for helping bring this show to the stage. Stephanie Jolly coordinated the parent volunteers. Luce parents Melanie Martin, Jen Acevedo, Jen Nagle, and Cindy Bonner worked on costumes. Creating the sets was a team effort led by Goodrich, Assistant Director Jamie Goodrich, Music Director Katie Murray, Brian Vogel, and Tech Crew students from Canton High School.

The majority of the cast had never been on stage before this production. Six Luce students volunteered to work as stage crew.

“I have been in community theatre since high school and have acted, done tech, and served as stage manager,” said Goodrich. “I have seen another side of this wonderful world in directing. If I can give a student a good experience and maybe help them find a place where they can blossom and bloom, then I have done my job. I have truly enjoyed this show and all of the cast and crew members have grown from little, unsure baby fish into strong and confident members of the Great Barrier Reef!”
