Brightview resident honored on 107th birthday
By Canton CitizenBrightview Senior Living in Canton hosted a special birthday celebration for Morris “Morry” Casso, who turned 107 years young on Sunday, January 28.
A native of Roxbury, Morry is a proud U.S. Army veteran of World War II, joining an elite specialist group that was sent to Lee De Forest Laboratories in Chicago to learn about the Audion vacuum tube, a device capable of amplifying and modulating electromagnetic signals in radio transmissions. He was deployed to New Delhi, and a Signal Corps headquarters was set up for the Republic of the Union of Myanmar/China Air theater for the Army Air Force. Part of Morry’s job was to establish radio frequency channels for aircraft.
After the war, he worked in the Back Bay at his family’s drycleaning and formal attire business, retiring at the age of 65. He later volunteered his services for more than 20 years at New England Sinai Hospital in Stoughton and as an ombudsman at HESSCO, where he looked to solve problems for the elderly and those in need.
Morry and his wife — who is aging well at 97 — met in 1993 and lived in Sharon before moving to Brightview. This is the second marriage for both, and both are active and live in the Independent Living neighborhood of the Canton senior living community.
Morry loves a nice glass of Merlot at happy hour and enjoys live music. He attributes his long life to the guy upstairs, and he takes each day as they come and go!
