Tickets going fast for Friends’ Comedy Night Fundraiser

By

There are only a few tickets remaining for the first of two comedy shows scheduled for Saturday evening, February 24, at the Canton Public Library as part of the Friends of the Library’s second annual Comedy Night Fundraiser.

Mark Riley

This year there will be two shows — one at 7 p.m. and another at 9 p.m. — both headlined by popular Boston comedian Mark Riley with an opening act by Jimmy Dunn.

In addition to endless laughs, there will be a cash bar and complimentary snacks, as well as a 50/50 raffle to benefit the library’s Maker Space. Raffle tickets went on sale January 20 and will be available for purchase on Saturdays leading up to the show. All proceeds will benefit library programs and initiatives.

Tickets for this 21+ event are $35 plus Eventbrite fees in advance or $40 at the door (if still available). Tickets may be obtained at fcplcomedy.eventbrite.com.

Mark Riley is one of the top headlining acts in the Boston comedy scene. His unique perspective on everyday situations combined with his sharp observational humor keeps audiences in stitches. Riley fine-tuned his comedic talents in various coliseums and “ice barns” throughout the country when he traveled as a professional ice hockey referee. He was a stellar employee of the NHL for one whole week before he was fired. It was at that moment that Riley realized he was better on stage rather than the ice. He co-authored the movie script “Penalty Box” based on his life in pro hockey and was a finalist in the 2016 Boston Comedy Festival. He is currently publishing his first book and has many television appearances including NESN and Dirty Water TV.

Jimmy Dunn currently plays Moose in the hit series Frasier. He got his start in comedy telling jokes in a bar in Gloucester, where he was paid in beer and fried clams. Since then, he has performed at many prestigious comedy events, including the Late Show with David Letterman, Conan, Montreal’s International Just for Laughs Comedy Festival, and Denis Leary’s Comics Come Home in Boston. Dunn played Sea McCarthy in The McCarthys TV show and has written several TV projects, including two episodes of Loudermilk (co-written with Academy Award winner Peter Farrelly).

The Friends of the Library provide important support for programming, services, and equipment not available through the library’s municipal budget.
