Canton Writes 2024 to kick off next month

By

Canton Writes, the annual town-wide writing contest sponsored by the Friends of the Canton Public Library and the Canton Citizen, returns for a 15th consecutive year beginning in early February.

Last year, there were 97 contributing authors across four age divisions: elementary, middle school, high school and adult. All authors must be Canton residents and may submit an original work, not to exceed 1,000 words, in the categories of short story, poem, or nonfiction/memoir (limit one entry per category per author).

First, second, and third-place prizes are awarded for each age group and genre. Winners are notified by email and announced in the Canton Citizen in May. All winners will have the opportunity to read their work to an audience at an awards night. Winning entries will also be printed in the Citizen and in the annual Canton Writes book, copies of which will be sold at the library for a nominal fee.
