O’Hara, Darrell L.

By

With a heavy heart full of memories, we announce the passing of Darrell L. O’Hara, born Darrell d’Entremont, affectionately known to many as DeeDee, on December 11, 2023.

A lifelong resident of Canton, Darrell’s strength and devotion to her family were the hallmarks of her life.

Darrell was the beloved wife of the late Edward J. O’Hara and a devoted mother. Her family was everything to her. She is survived by her children: Edward J. (Ted) O’Hara Jr. of Canton, Nancy Schaub and her husband, Paul, of Acton, Karen Holmes and her husband, James, of South Windsor, CT, Brian O’Hara and his wife, Pamela, of Derry, NH, and Thomas O’Hara of Scotts Valley, CA. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Michael O’Hara, Allison (O’Hara) Matarozzo, Matthew O’Hara, James Holmes, and Daniel Holmes. She took immense pride and enjoyment in seeing her children, son and daughter-in-law, and grandchildren together.

She is also survived by her brother, Earl J. d’Entremont Jr. and sister-in-law, Joanna, currently of North Carolina, and predeceased by her sister Sandra Webster and her husband, Bob Webster.

Widowed at a relatively young age, DeeDee became the rock of the family; her strength could be a force of nature. She is fondly remembered not only by her children and grandchildren, but also a host of nephews and nieces.

It’s appropriate that she died this Christmas season; DeeDee loved Christmas — the lights, the music, and above all else, the reconnection with her family. Her Christmas Eve parties were a family holiday staple for years.

Her years at Canton High School were marked by her involvement as a cheerleader and class officer. After graduation, she coordinated reunions of her high school class.

Professionally, Darrell dedicated many years of service as a medical billing clerk at MediCompts in Canton. Her intelligence and attention to detail were hallmarks of her career until her well-deserved retirement. She took pride in her ability to provide the best outcomes for her client physicians.

Darrell formed tight bonds with her sisters-in-law, Dot, Diane, Phyllis, Anne and Susan; they spent a lot of time together and enjoyed each other’s company greatly. She loved summering at the family home in Eastham on Cape Cod; she loved the beach, she loved the craft fairs, she loved the sunsets and she loved the family time. Above all else, Darrell cherished her family, and they were the cornerstone of her world.

DeeDee’s life story is one of unwavering love and commitment to those she held dear, of competence, hard work, and strength. She never complained about her lot in life. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy is one of love, and it is with love that we will remember her always.

Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street, Sunday, December 17, from 3-6 p.m. Funeral Mass in St. Oscar Romero Church in Canton Monday, December 18, at 10 a.m.
