Statement from CDEI

By

The Canton Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee (CDEI) would like to hold space in our hearts and minds for all those who are grieving, scared and suffering from the continued terrorist attacks on the country of Israel by Hamas. These acts of terrorism are unimaginably brutal. We fully support Israel’s right to exist in their homeland and the right to peace and safety for Jewish people worldwide, including in Canton.

We know at this time it is important to reaffirm to all of our community members their safety in our shared space. This includes our Jewish community members, and also our Muslim community members who have no connection to Hamas. Hate has no place in our community.

Please see below our Anti-Hate Statement.

United we must:

* Condemn acts of racism, violence, and hate in all forms.

* Foster a welcoming and inclusive community that encourages cooperation and respect among all persons in Canton.

* Recognize the cultural richness of Canton’s diversity as a critical element that characterizes a healthy and vibrant community and encourage participation from all.

* Seek to celebrate and embrace the traditions and values of the groups within our community and advocate for the human and civil rights of all individuals in Canton.

* Work to ensure all individuals in the town of Canton enjoy equal opportunity to participate in and enjoy life in our town, regardless of their race, color, ethnicity, religious beliefs, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, and mental or physical ability.
