John (Jack) Richard McDonough Jr., 78, of Mashpee, formerly of Canton, died Monday, September 4, 2023.

Born and raised in Dorchester, Jack was the son of the late John R. and Anne (Kelly) McDonough. He graduated from Matignon High School and Stonehill College. In 1966, Jack enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in Cape May, NJ. At graduation he was honored with the Yeoman distinction. This experience enhanced a lifelong passion for boating, fishing and simply enjoying the waters of Cape Cod.

Jack dedicated his career as a cost analyst for 40 years at Raytheon. After retiring from Raytheon, Jack worked for the Steamship Authority as a member of the crew. He enjoyed running for pleasure, including his favorites, the Falmouth Road Race and Hyannis Half Marathon. He loved gardening. The house in Mashpee is filled with a variety of trees, plants and colorful flowers, all particularly chosen by Jack.

He was beloved by his wife, Frances, of West Columbia, SC, his son John Richard McDonough III of Easton, his daughter Kathleen Lehan and her husband, Edward Lehan, of Canton, his youngest son predeceased, Michael William, and five grandchildren, Shaun Kirby, Ella McDonough, Anna Lehan, Bridget McDonough and Maeve Lehan.

The oldest of four, his siblings include Marie (McDonough) and Bernard Bennett of Topsfield, predeceased Robert and Jane (Keenan) McDonough of Scituate, RI, and Kathryn (McDonough) and Steven Ellis of Vero Beach, FL, and former wife Anne (Healy) McDonough of Canton. Stepfather to William, Daniel and his wife, Leah Sarantopoulos, and their children Tobin and Holland, all of West Columbia, SC. He was loved by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral Mass in St. Oscar Romero Church in Canton Saturday, September 9, at 12 p.m. Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street, Saturday prior to the mass from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Burial private.
