Over 50 students from Canton recently took part in the 14th annual Summer Music Program. The week-long session was designed for young musicians who have at least one year of experience playing an instrument. Another 30 students, ranging from rising sophomores through seniors, served as mentors, playing along with the students and leading recreation activities during breaks.

This year, for the first time, the students were combined to form an 80-plus-piece Canton Summer Pops Orchestra. The program was led by Brian Thomas, music teacher and band director at Canton High School. He was assisted by Brittany Hitchcock and Nancy Kidd, who work in the district, as well as Steve Turcott from the Woburn Public Schools.
