Canton Dolphins wrap up memorable season

The Canton Dolphins swim team wrapped up another stellar season at the Summer Suburban Swim League Championships held on Saturday, August 12. Competing against swimmers from 10 area communities in and around greater Boston, the Dolphins, led by coach Sandy Hart, finished fifth overall in the standings this summer with a final record of 6-4.
At the championship meet, several Dolphin swimmers earned top placements, led by a trio of stars from the Davenport Division champion CHS girls swim team: sisters Shauna and Keeley Harney and Annie McLean.
The three girls swept the podium in the 50-yard freestyle with Shauna Harney placing first, Keeley finishing second, and McLean taking third. McLean also took first in her age group in the 50-yard butterfly while the Harney sisters placed third and fourth in the 50-yard backstroke.
Other event winners for Canton at the championship meet included the girls 13-18 200 freestyle relay team as well as 10-year-old Isla Sbalbi, who finished first in her age group in the 25-yard backstroke.
Another Canton 10-year-old, Danielle Cusack, placed second out of 40 swimmers in the breaststroke, while several others placed third in their age group, including Nathan Shanks in the fly, Anderson Lee in the breaststroke, Mia Avery and Ryan Hickey in the backstroke, and the girls 18 and under 100 medley relay.
Ryan Hickey, age 14, added a fourth-place finish in the 50 freestyle, while Charlie Smith, 17, and Ryan Dittler, 8, also took fourth in the breaststroke. Other top performers for Canton at the championship meet included Emma Nguyen and Nora McLean, who each had a pair of fifth-place finishes, as well as Evan Nguyen, Penny Larose, Libby Watts, Hunter Rice, Matt Hart, Caitlyn Reynolds and Olivia Hickey.
