George R. Doody, CPA, 88, of Plymouth, passed away July 8. Born in Canton, he was a graduate of Canton High School. He attended Tufts University for a year and then transferred to Northeastern University, where he participated in the ROTC program and earned his bachelor’s degree.

He received his commission in the U.S. Army upon graduation and served as a pilot. He worked for Arthur Andersen and then Texas Instruments for a short time before joining State Street Bank for 33 years. He traveled extensively both for work and for pleasure. He was an avid golfer and loved bowling, participating in many leagues over the years. He was a Canton Little League coach, Boy Scout troop leader, a member of the Canton Town Club, and treasurer for St. John’s Church and Catholic Charities.

Beloved husband of Joan B. Doody of Plymouth for 63 years. Father of Joseph Doody and his wife, Lisa, of Mansfield, Lynne Andersen of Plymouth, Robert Doody and his wife, Carole, of Quincy, Paul Doody and his wife, Heike, of Pennsylvania, Michael Doody of New Hampshire, Susan Richards and her husband, Gary, of Plymouth, and Laurie Davis of Plymouth. Brother of Doris Lawrie of Franklin and the late Rita Trayers of Canton, Margaret Guarino of Canton, and Richard Doody of Halifax. Also survived by 21 grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held Thursday (today) from 4-8 p.m. at the Cartmell-Davis Funeral Home, 619 State Road in Plymouth. Funeral Mass on Friday, July 14, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Bonaventure Church in Plymouth. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org/honor/memorial.
