Dirt Dawgs 12U raising funds to play in prestigious tournament

The Canton-based Dirt Dawgs 12-Under boys baseball team has been invited to play in the world-class All-Star Village tournament, located at the birthplace of baseball: Cooperstown, New York.

Surrounded by the lore of their heroes and legends, the Dawgs will have a chance to add their own names to the history books. The memorable week-long event will kick off on August 14 and will see the Dawgs compete for the weekly national title against 80 other teams. They will also participate in homerun derbies and skills challenges, all while making lasting friendships with players from across the country.

At an expense of $2,000 per child, the boys have been hard at work raising funds and securing sponsorships to defray the tournament costs, ensuring that each player can attend. They hosted a special baseball clinic during April vacation for younger players, sold candy bars, and set up stations at local supermarkets on weekends. They also partnered with Crisp Pizza to host a week-long dine-out fundraiser.

Corporate sponsors include: The Law Offices of Glen Hannington (Grand Slam Sponsor); Corner Pub, Cottage Porch Industries, Granite City Partners, Liberty Liquors, and NuAlliance Insurance Group (Golden Glove Sponsors); Marathon Moving (Bullpen Sponsor); and Abbott-Action, Atlantic Insurance, Be Greater Than Yesterday, and Crisp Pizza (Single Sponsor).

Thanks to the support of the community, the Dawgs have raised approximately 70 percent of the tournament costs. With less than a month to go, they are asking for help to reach their fundraising goal. Donations will help defray tournament fees, food, lodging, and travel expenses, and experiences such as ticket entry into the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.
