State legislators Rep. Bill Galvin and Senator Paul Feeney joined the Canton Select Board on Tuesday in formally recognizing Canton Veteran Services Director Arafat Knight as the recipient of the Black Excellence on the Hill Award.

The award, sponsored by the Massachusetts Black and Latino Legislative Caucus, recognizes local leaders across the commonwealth who make a difference and are trailblazers in their communities.

Galvin submitted Knight’s nomination for the state award and presented him with a citation from the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Feeney also presented Knight with a citation from the State Senate while Select Board Clerk Michael Loughran presented a town citation.

All three men praised Knight’s leadership skills and his work in advocating for services on behalf of veterans, not only in Canton but throughout the state. “Arafat goes beyond service every day,” said Galvin.

Feeney echoed Galvin’s sentiments, adding that Knight does business “professionally but with great empathy.”
