Mindy Milman challenging for library trustee seat

Submitted by Mindy Milman

My name is Mindy Milman and I am announcing my candidacy for library trustee. I am running because it is time for a change and I can make a difference.

For the past 13 years as a resident of Canton, the heart of this community — the library — has also captured my heart. When I moved my mom here from out of state to live in an assisted living facility, I would bring her to the library where she loved to sit and enjoy the beautiful building or stroll the aisles with her walker looking through books and magazines. It was one of her favorite pastimes and I loved seeing the joy it brought to her. Now, I want to give back. I have the time and energy to devote myself to the role of trustee and I look forward to increased involvement in our community by helping to ensure that our valuable tax dollars benefit the needs and interests of a growing and diverse Canton.

I bring to this position experience in business, healthcare and fundraising with a BBA in marketing and accounting. I have worked in the wholesale clothing and swimwear industry, sales and merchandising. My work at Carney Hospital, Children’s Hospital Boston and Beth Israel Lahey Health enabled me to answer the call for community good and witness the benefit of making a difference in others’ lives. My experience coordinating fundraisers, workshops, and banquets will help the Canton Public Library continue its successful partnership with the Friends of the Library to meet its stated five-year goals and expand services to the community.

My previous achievements include: VP/Alumnae Delta Gamma Fraternity Intl. (part of a seven-woman board of directors overseeing a 250,000 women’s membership); member and past president of Toastmasters and recipient of the Leadership Excellence Award; and recognition as one of the Top Ten Women in Business by the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) and as Woman of the Year. I am currently a member of the Board of Deacons of the Congregational Church of Canton, a member of the choir, and have successfully organized many church fundraisers.

The library is a critical source of educational and recreational resources and activities. As a member of the Board of Trustees, I will work to create relationships with all segments of our diverse community, intensify programming for our seniors and encourage inclusivity to the community. For example, I propose publishing all new books on the library website and in the Canton Citizen once a month as well as publishing minutes of trustee meetings promptly on the library website. As a member of the Board of Trustees, I will present fresh ideas for dynamic programs that will support the intellectual, cultural and recreational needs of all Canton residents.

It’s time for change and I am well-positioned, eager and enthusiastic to serve the Canton community as a member of the Library Board of Trustees. Join me on Sunday, March 19 from 3-5 p.m. for a Meet & Greet at River Village Condominiums, 59 Walpole Street. Please stop in and chat. I will be happy to answer your questions and share my vision for the library. I respectfully ask for your vote. Thank you!
