Lisa Lopez making the most of her 1,440 minutes

By

Dear Editor:

Hashtag #1440 is trending. At least in Canton, thanks to Police Chief Helena Rafferty, who has affixed this hashtag to the back of police cruisers. It refers to the number of minutes that each of us is given equally every day. And the question Chief Rafferty is asking of her officers and of Canton citizens is what are we doing with those 1,440 minutes each day to make the world and this community a better place?

There are so many individuals who use their #1440 minutes a day to make Canton better, and that’s what actually makes Canton such a great place to live. Chief Rafferty is one. The impact she has already made by connecting us all with #1440, recognizing acts of kindness and bringing these 1,440 minutes to the forefront of our minds is awe-inspiring. Diane Tynan also comes to mind. The way she energizes the programming at Canton’s Department of Elder and Human Services makes me excited to live out my life in Canton. And Lisa Lopez is another and is why I am writing this letter to ask you to help re-elect her to the Select Board.

After raising three children and maintaining a career as a corporate attorney, Lisa could ride off into the sunset of retirement feeling proud and satisfied. But she’s not. She’s been using her wit, skills and intelligence on several town committees and the Select Board. There’s more to do so she’s spending a significant portion of her 1,440 minutes every day, in her retirement, to add a much-needed voice to the town of Canton. She has a vision and sees Canton as a great town to live in now and in the future and knows how to take the strategic steps to ensure we are moving forward in time and not backward. She is a keen negotiator, an open-minded listener, and a seasoned collaborator on a board of five that acts as the mayor of our little town — and this is what we need.

Local government is the foundation of all the amazing things Canton has to offer to everyone from kindergarteners to senior citizens. We rely on individuals who not only show up to school plays, playoff games, Little League parades, town meetings and candlelight vigils, but individuals who have the kind of business acumen to think strategically, listen empathetically and act decisively. Lisa is all these things and it is a gift to our town that she is willing to lend her experience, expertise, and energy to the Select Board. I encourage you to cast your vote to re-elect Lisa Lopez to Canton’s Select Board.

Sincerely,

Julie Beckham
