Canton High swim teams sweep Foxboro, Mansfield

After trading wins and losses through their first two meets of the season, the CHS boys and girls swim teams are both on a bit of a roll with consecutive sweeps over Foxboro and Mansfield.

Both squads are now 3-1 on the season and are in contention for the Hockomock Davenport Division title with a remaining divisional meet against Stoughton scheduled for January 27.

Against Foxboro, the Canton boys were utterly dominant as they rolled to a 100-43 win. Talis Veidis, who is very close to hitting qualifying times in both the 50 and 100-yard freestyle, picked up two individual wins along with two relay wins — the medley relay (Hunter Rice, Matt Hart, Veidis, Daniel Bui) and 200 free (Jonathan He, Bui, Hart, Veidis).

Other winners against the Warriors included He in the 50 free, Bui in the 100 butterfly, Rice in the 500 free, Hart in the breaststroke, and the 400 free relay team of Ryan Hickey, Rice, He and Charlie Smith.

Veidis also had two individual wins against the Hornets while Hart grabbed victories in the breaststroke and 200 free. Smith added a win in the 200IM and Rice prevailed in the 500.

On the girls’ side, sisters Shauna and Keeley Harney continue to shine, and they’ve now qualified for the postseason in a combined 13 events. Both had multiple wins to help lead Canton over Foxboro and Mansfield, and they got great support from the likes of Atina Lee, Tema Mazonson, Annie McLean, Olivia Hickey, and newcomer Caitlyn Reynolds.

Others who contributed with a top-three placement were Amy Murphy, Julianne Gilchrist, and Megan Horrigan.

In the relays, the Canton girls got wins in the medley (Harney sisters, McLean, Hickey), 200 free (Mazonson, Lee, Reynolds, Gilchrist) and 400 free (Harney sisters, McLean, Hickey).

The Bulldogs will next head to Dedham for an away meet on Wednesday, January 25.
