News Notes: Downtown zoning forum set for Nov. 29

By

Canton municipal leaders, in partnership with the Metropolitan Area Planning Council, will host a public forum on the future of downtown zoning on Tuesday evening, November 29, at the Canton Public Library.

With the town’s Economic Opportunity Overlay District possibly due for a refresh after nearly 20 years in existence, participants will be asked to share their suggestions and feedback on potential zoning improvements with an eye toward revitalization and attracting new businesses to the area. All are welcome to attend the event, which gets underway at 6:30 p.m. in the library’s Community Room.

CCPC clarifies state funding estimates

Rather, MacSweeney said the town, like all CPA communities, receives an annual distribution from the state that is based on a certain percentage of the monies raised locally through a property tax surcharge.

This year, the match was pegged at 30.3 percent, which resulted in an additional $216,480 for the Canton CPA fund, according to figures released by the Mass. Department of Revenue. Additionally, lawmakers have authorized a transfer of $20 million in surplus funding to the CPA trust, and according to the Community Preservation Coalition, there is a “good possibility” that those funds will result in a second distribution, bringing the overall match percentage to around 38 percent.

The first session of ATM 2023 is planned for Monday, May 8, beginning at 7 p.m. at Canton High School …
