On Sunday, August 21, Canton resident Maggie Wade will be returning to Falmouth to take part in the 50th running of the ASICS Falmouth Road Race in support of the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism.

A former multi-sport athlete at CHS and two-time Falmouth Road Race finisher, Wade will once again make the seven-mile trek from Woods Hole to Falmouth Heights while raising money and awareness to help people and families affected by autism live life to the fullest.

As a member of Dougie’s Team, Wade will be running along with three other women in honor of EmmaKate Marshall, and together they have raised nearly 100 percent of their $7,500 fundraising goal.

EmmaKate, according to Wade and her teammates, is “joyous, immensely talented, and super funny,” but also struggles with anxiety, feeling overwhelmed, and wondering how she fits in. “This is autism!” notes the Team EmmaKate fundraising page. “Open and honest about her experience growing up on the autism spectrum, she is so happy to have organizations like the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism on her side.”

The Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism, established by legendary former quarterback Doug Flutie and his wife, Laurie, provides direct financial support to families who are caring for a loved one with autism, as well as collaborative grant making to autism-serving organizations. The Flutie Foundation works towards creating opportunities for people with autism to lead lives where they are included, respected and engaged in their communities.

“I have been volunteering since I was a freshman in high school and love giving back to my community,” said Wade. “I have been running and fundraising with other Dougie’s Team for Autism team members for the past few years and I am thrilled to continue our tradition.”
