Unbeaten girls lax faces tough road ahead

Enjoying its best start in several years, the Canton High girls lacrosse team is about to be put to the test with the toughest portion of their schedule on the horizon.
Fresh off an exciting, 10-9 win at Mansfield Monday night, the Bulldogs were a perfect six for six in game action heading into Wednesday night’s showdown with King Philip, a strong Division 1 team that is currently in second place in the Kelley-Rex Division at 8-2 overall. In addition to battling KP, Canton also has two upcoming games against nonleague Quincy, a D1 program, as well as an away game next Monday against division rival Foxboro (7-3) and a late-season home showdown versus currently undefeated Franklin.
Despite the tough road ahead, new head coach Casey Bradley has plenty of confidence in her squad and believes they have the mental makeup to stay competitive against top opponents. “Every day the girls are improving and that’s always been our goal,” said Bradley. “We are playing our best lacrosse right now and I think our recent win against Oliver Ames showed the Hock that we can compete. While we are so excited that we are undefeated, our focus quickly adjusts to the next game. The coaches couldn’t be prouder of them.”
Among the individual standouts over the past few contests are sisters Emily McCabe and Allie McCabe, who combined for 10 goals and five assists in wins against OA and Mansfield. Ella Yeaton has also started to heat up and led all scorers with four goals against the Hornets. (She also had two goals and two assists in a dominant road win over Taunton.)
Other key contributors for the Canton girls include Fay Gallery, who netted two goals and two assists against Mansfield, and Devan Spinale, who assisted on three of the Bulldogs’ goals in Monday night’s win. New goalie Elyse Broderick also continues to impress, picking up 12 saves over the past two games and improving to 6-0 in her lacrosse career to date.
