Time for a new generation of Norfolk County leadership

By

Dear Residents of Norfolk County:

My name is Matthew J. Sheehan, and I’m running for Norfolk County Commissioner. I am a Dedham resident and a 2003 graduate of Norfolk County Agricultural High School. I am a pilot for American Airlines and a volunteer for Above the Clouds, a nonprofit based out of Norwood Airport that provides flight experiences for kids facing serious illness or adversity. I also serve on the board of trustees at my alma mater, Norfolk Aggie. Norfolk County has a commissioner position up for re-election this year, and I would like the opportunity to be considered!

I have attended some commissioner meetings. Currently, there is a dispute between the Norfolk County Registry of Deeds and the commissioners over whether to retain a full-time IT director’s position. This position would be on-site and would handle over $80 million worth of real estate transactions. The incumbent is against this position, which has resulted in a lawsuit at the expense of our taxpayer dollars. Our future is online and we need to start treating cybersecurity seriously.

Norfolk County offers veterans services that include rides to the VA and meals during the holiday season. Each city and town has a veterans agent who I would like to work closely with, not only to expand these services but also to increase the focus on suicide prevention. I have many friends and family who have served in all branches of the military. This is extremely important to me, and I would be honored to help where I can.

Norfolk Aggie sits on some of the most beautiful land in the county. Located on Main Street in Walpole, the public high school serves over 600 students from 28 communities who are interested in pursuing careers in agricultural mechanics, animal and marine science, environmental science, and horticultural (plant) science. There is currently a solar project under consideration on county-owned land that would potentially destroy 30 acres of irreplaceable green space. I support solar panels on existing structures but not the clearing of forests and fields. The constituents, students, and the Norfolk Aggie community are overwhelmingly against this. The town of Walpole has stopped this project due to the public outcry. In response, the county commissioners have hired a lawyer to appeal and push the project through.

It’s time to end these lawsuits that equal $200,000 worth of taxpayer money. A public hearing on the solar project has been scheduled for Monday, May 16, at 7 p.m. at Norfolk Aggie. Everyone in the county has a right to attend. Join my campaign! We’re on social media and will have a website soon. It’s time for a new generation of leadership!

Sincerely,

Matthew J. Sheehan

Candidate for Norfolk County Commissioner
