CHS girls track dominates Sharon for 1st team win
By Mike BergerShowing off its overall talent and depth, the CHS girls outdoor track team earned its first win of the season last week, beating Sharon 91-45. The Bulldogs won two relays and recorded sweeps in the 400-meter hurdles, 400m, 200m, and high jump.
Standout performers for the Canton girls included Kiley Hanlon, who won both the 100 and 200 and placed third in the high jump, and Jayda Proffit, who won the 400 hurdles and took third in the 100 hurdles and triple jump. Teammate Kiara Cerruti added a victory in the 800 and second-place finish in the two-mile; Talya DeGraw took first and second in the high jump and 100, respectively; and Emma Massih did the same in the discus and shot put.
Other winners for Canton in the Sharon meet included Lianna Camille in the 400, Hannah Fidas in the two-mile, and Maeve Morrissey in the javelin, along with the 4×100 relay team of Gabby Herivaux, DeGraw, Katie Oliver and Syriah McCruse and the 4×400 team of Brianna Rosebrugh, Corinne Campbell, Caira McKinney and Camille.
Earning runner-up finishes were Ella Lewis in the 100 hurdles and high jump, Oliver in the triple jump and long jump, Julia Donovan in the 400 hurdles, Rosebrugh in the 400m, McCruse in the 200m, and Fatima Sidibay in the shot put. Katie Martin added a third-place finish for the Bulldogs in the javelin.
On the boys’ side, Canton fell to the Eagles 91-37 but got good performances from Kyle Downing, who was a double winner in the mile and two-mile; Sean Sullivan, who took one-two in the javelin and 110 hurdles, respectively; and Ruairi Ritson, who was the overall winner in the shot put.
Placing second in their respective events were Favor Ugah in the 100, Dan Kraslynkov in the 400, and Charlie McKinney in the 200. Third-place finishes were turned in by Mo Arugollu in the triple jump and 400 hurdles, Andres Castro Alvarez in the long jump, Graham Stemm in the discus, and Sam Vail in the javelin.
