Community Preservation forum set for Monday, April 11

By

What do you think the town of Canton should do with the funds raised from the Community Preservation Act (CPA)? Attend a public forum on Monday, April 11, to give your feedback on CPA priorities and help decide how nearly $1 million in annual CPA revenues should be spent.

Canton is undertaking a major update to the Community Preservation Plan, the document that assesses community needs and guides the allocation of CPA funds. Please join the Canton Community Preservation Committee (CCPC) at the public forum to share your thoughts and to help shape the plan update. CPA funding can be spent in four categories: Community Housing, Historic Preservation, Open Space and Recreation.

The CPA is a state law designed to help communities plan for sustainable growth. The CPA allows towns to levy a community-wide property tax surcharge to create a local Community Preservation fund that can qualify for state matching funds.

When completed, the Community Preservation Plan will act as a guide for the CCPC when deciding funding priorities to recommend to town meeting for appropriation.

The Canton CPA public forum will take place from 7-9 p.m. on Monday, April 11, in the Community Room of the Canton Public Library. Pre-registration is not required, but is possible by visiting eventbrite.com/e/canton-community-preservation-plan-public-forum-tickets-305673085427.

All are welcome to join!
