Proposed Trillium expansion is too much, too soon

By

Dear Editor:

Tonight at 6 p.m. in the Salah Meeting Room at Town Hall, the Canton Zoning Board of Appeals is scheduled to hold a public hearing to consider an application for zoning relief filed by Trillium Brewing Co. (listed as Everything’s Fine LLC).

Headquartered at the former Reebok site at 100 Royall Street, Trillium is seeking to amend a prior decision that would allow the company to “increase [its] restaurant capacity from 500 to 750 guests; allow a reduction in parking; allow live entertainment during normal business hours all days of the week; allow a change in landscaping and permit the use of additional lawn area for outside seating for the restaurant; eliminate [a prior condition] concerning minor events; eliminate seasonal restriction on the use of the outdoor space; and obtain approval for three ‘major events’ in 2022.”

As residents of Blue Hill Commons, we live one block away and are very concerned that we were not considered. The Blue Hills area is a treasure that must not be further encroached upon simply for the financial gain of any corporation. Trillium’s public aims are to expand and expand. We already are putting up with noise and pollution from the highway, where a noise barrier is necessary but not on the horizon as far as I can tell.

Just today, we heard and saw drag racing taking place on the street leading to Trillium. Is there any consideration to add speed bumps and to have police enforcement?

There is much to consider about the future of the Blue Hills area and one corporation should not have all the options to its financial benefit. What is possibly their hardship to merit ruining the Blue Hills area?

Respectfully,

Andreas Melas
