Quinn, Joseph L.

By

Joseph L. Quinn, 80, formerly of Sherman Street in Canton, fell asleep in death on April 9, 2021, from natural causes after a short stay at Boston Medical Center.

Born in Boston to the late Joseph L. Quinn Sr. and Bertha (LaVine) Quinn, he was raised in Canton where he attended St. John the Evangelist School for eight years before moving on to Canton High School, graduating with the Class of 1959. Joe was a natural athlete, playing hockey for the Canton Bulldogs from 1957-1959. One of his favorite activities was skiing with his best friend Joe Carrara. They enjoyed skiing the mountains of New England, especially North Conway where they and other friends shared many good times. Their favorite was spring skiing at Tuckermanns Ravine.

Joe remained close to many of his other high school friends, some of them being Joe DeFelice, Bobby Trayers, and Myko Houston. A few days before being admitted to Boston Medical Center, Joe was still enjoying a pizza with Myko at his favorite restaurant, Town Spa. Joe had an extensive resume, working as the regional director of the Epilepsy Foundation of New England, New York and Puerto Rico; executive director of March of Dimes Merrimack Valley Chapter; and real estate and property management for various shopping malls. He was also involved in John Kerry’s 1984 Senatorial campaign.

Joe was a social guy and had a zest for life that led him to meet people from all walks of life. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching and rooting for the Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins and Celtics. He also enjoyed traditional Irish music and dance; some of his favorites were Tommy Makem, Liam Clancy, Battlefield Band, Silly Wizard, Cherish the Ladies and Chieftians. Joe was a proud veteran of the Massachusetts Air National Guard.

He was predeceased by his parents, his former wife, Michelle (Bouchard), and his brother Phil. Survived by his children, Natalie K. Quinn of Verdun, Quebec, Canada, and Sean Quinn of Playa Del Rey, CA; his sister, Barbara Proudman and her husband, Don, of Dennis; and his brothers, Robert Quinn and his wife, Kathy, of Middleboro and David Quinn of East Wareham. Also survived by his cherished granddaughter Thalia of Canada and many nieces and nephews. His family was everything to him, especially his children and granddaughter “Little T.” His family is what he lived for and he loved them dearly.

Joe was buried in the Quinn family cemetery, All Saints Catholic Cemetery in Cardigan, Prince Edward Island, Canada in early May 2021. Cardigan was very special to Joe as it is the homestead and family roots of generations of the Quinns. Over the years Joe spent much of his time in Cardigan.

We’re all looking forward to seeing him again when there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous right here on a paradise earth, which was God’s original purpose. (Reference: Psalm 37:9-11/John 5:28, 29) At that time there will be no sickness or death. The things causing pain and suffering will be done away with. All things will be made new as God promised. (Reference: Revelation 21:4, 5)
