Town facing important capital decision

By

Dear Editor:

The recent announcement that the St. Gerard’s property may be put up for sale has prompted the Select Board to ask, “What would be in the town’s best interest?” Do we want the property to be sold to a developer to build more new houses? Do we want the town to acquire this property as a potential future site for a new school or to use for one of the other projects Canton residents have been asking for, such as a recreation center? Do you have another vision for this property that should be considered by the town?

A special town meeting is being convened to decide this important question. As moderator, I have the privilege of presiding over the meeting, which will be held December 1 for the community to vote on this matter. In preparation for the meeting, there will be two information gathering sessions where members of the town may offer their suggestions, ask questions, and discuss their views on this matter. First, there will be an in-person meeting on November 8 in the Canton High School Distance Learning Lab, followed by a Zoom virtual meeting to be held November 10. If you have any questions that you would like to ask, you can also email them to atm@town.canton.ma.us and responses will be posted on the town website. Please make an effort to have your voice heard on this matter.

Respectfully,

Alan Hines

Town Moderator
