Richard J. “Dick” Flanagan, 74, of Canton, passed away June 2 at the VA Hospital in Brockton.

Born in Norwood, he was a lifelong resident of Canton. Dick graduated from Canton High School and Butera Art School and was a veteran of the United States Navy. He worked for Eco Lab in Boston as a salesman for 30 years before retiring in 2010. After retiring he worked at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton as a counselor.

Dick was a member and former chaplain of the American Legion Post #24 in Canton and a member of the Canton Town Club. He was a great artist and enjoyed painting and working in the yard.

Beloved husband for 53 years of Dawn P. (Gardner). Father of Julie Flanagan Clarke and her husband, John, of Milton and the late Amy Chase. Father-in-law of Brian Chase of Walpole. Grandfather of Noah, Petal, Christian, and Taylor.

A funeral mass was held Saturday in St. John the Evangelist Church in Canton. Burial St. Mary’s Cemetery, Canton. Donations may be made in Dick’s memory to the American Legion Post #24, 950R Washington St., Canton, MA 02021. Arrangements by the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street.
