Canton’s fallen heroes received a proper and solemn salute during Monday’s Memorial Day ceremony held at the American Legion Post 24 hall. Moved indoors due to the threat of rain, the event was led by Veterans Agent Arafat Knight and Legion Commander John Carrington and featured a roll call, poetry readings, and remarks by retired Army Col. Dan Arkins, a decorated veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan who now serves as director of development for Home Base at Mass. General Hospital. At the conclusion of the ceremony, members of the Legion and Veterans Honor Guard traveled to Veterans Memorial Park at Canton Corner Cemetery for the laying of wreaths, a fire salute and playing of Taps.
