Canton’s housing challenges are real

By

Dear Editor:

I have lived in the same home in Canton for all my years. When I decided to downsize, I wished to remain in Canton among dear friends and a rich life rooted in this community. To say it’s been a struggle to find a suitable place to live is an understatement. My needs are not complicated, but there are simply too few housing choices for people like me. I know that the problem of too little inventory leading to very high prices is not unique to Canton. And that it may take a long time to add different kinds of housing choices in town.

On May 22, town meeting voters will determine whether to set up a Municipal Housing Trust to focus on Canton’s housing challenges. If authorized, a housing trust may not produce results in time for me. But I’m still going to support it, as it may help the next generation experiencing the same difficulties I am today. Please attend town meeting and vote ‘Yes’ on Article 32.

Very truly yours,

Betty Biggs
