James R. Magee, Jr., 63, a lifelong resident of Canton, passed away at Good Samaritan Hospital on May 8, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.

Jim attended St. John’s School, Canton Public Schools, Class of 1975, and Northeastern University, Class of 1980, where he majored in criminal justice. He worked with the New York City DEA in Northeastern’s work study program before returning to Massachusetts where he took a position with the New England Life Insurance Co. as a supervisor for over 15 years. He then went to work with the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Department in Dedham as a correction officer, retiring after 20 years of service. Following his retirement, Jim worked security with Securitas USA and was assigned to Harvard University’s Lamont Library along with his favorite job, working security at Boston College football games.

As a youth Jim was a Boy Scout, played Little League baseball, a Dolphin swimmer, and was a member of the Canton High School golf team, getting his first hole in one as a sophomore. Jim enjoyed traveling to Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, Aruba and the Bahamas. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion and the Canton Town Club.

Beloved husband of Eileen (Chierus) Magee. Devoted son of James R. Magee Sr. and the late Anne Marie Magee. Loving brother of Thomas Magee and his wife, Laura, of Foxboro, Judith Magee of UT, and Tara Adondakis and her husband, Greg, of UT. Also survived by many nieces and nephews and his lifelong friends Steve O’Brien, Brian Johnson, Jim Piana and Michelle Mogan.

A funeral mass was held Wednesday in St. John the Evangelist Church in Canton. Interment Canton Corner Cemetery.
