Canton off to great start with vaccines
By GuestBy Julie Goodman, PhD, Chair of the Canton Board of Health
Over the last few months, COVID-19 vaccinations have become available to more and more groups of people, and Canton residents have done a great job accessing these vaccines. As of last week, 81 percent of residents ages 65-74 and 87 percent of residents 75 and older have had at least one shot, while 33 percent of residents 65-74 and 72 percent of residents 75 and older have been fully vaccinated. These numbers are slightly higher than the state averages, as are the numbers for younger age groups.
This is very encouraging, as a large percent of the population will need to be vaccinated for herd immunity. We hope everyone signs up for a vaccine as soon as they are able. Even if you are not yet eligible, you can preregister for a vaccine right now. Information on how to preregister or sign up for a vaccine can be found on the Canton Board of Health webpage at town.canton.ma.us/139/Board-of-Health. If you have questions, you can call the COVID Information Line at 339-502-5715.
In the meantime, please continue to wash your hands, practice social distancing, wear masks, and isolate if you feel sick.
