An open letter from the library’s trustees and friends

By

Dear Editor:

The Trustees and the Friends of the Canton Public Library wish to thank the staff of the library. From the time that the COVID pandemic struck, this dedicated team has worked tirelessly to continue to make resources and programs available to the public in a safe and accessible way.

They have created weekday story times on Facebook and come up with ingenious crafts to accompany the stories. Although the building remains closed to the public, Canton citizens may still select books, DVDs, and other materials for curbside pickup, as well as obtain assistance via phone and online.

Programs such as art lectures and book clubs that formerly were held in the building have moved online. In each case, the staff, so used to helping one on one and in person, stepped up to these COVID challenges and worked creatively and collaboratively to meet the library’s mission of providing “access to the best available intellectual, cultural, and recreational resources and opportunities to encourage a lifelong love of learning and reading, support educational success, enrich their quality of life, promote community participation, and preserve Canton’s unique heritage.”

We always feel fortunate to have such a wonderful library staff especially during this ongoing crisis.

Sincerely,

Trustees of the Canton Public Library

Friends of the Canton Public Library
