CPD warns of vaccine scams
The Canton Police Department is urging residents to beware of various COVID-related scams, including a new vaccine scam identified recently by federal law enforcement agencies. According to an advisory shared last week on the CPD’s social media pages, residents should steer clear of anyone claiming to be a doctor or vendor who asks them to “go to several local stores to purchase gift cards as a form of payment.” Other signs of potential scams include being asked to pay out of pocket to get the vaccine, or being asked to pay to be put on a waiting list to get early access. Residents should also be wary of advertisements for vaccines through “social media platforms, email, telephone calls, online, or from unsolicited/unknown sources,” as well as from marketers offering to sell or ship doses of the vaccine for payment. Additionally, residents should not give out their personal information to unknown sources. More resources concerning COVID scams can be found on the CPD Facebook page.
