Johnson, John E.

By

John E. Johnson, 90, of Canton, passed away unexpectedly, on November 6, 2020.

John proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the South Shore Viking Club for over 50 years, where he held the position of treasurer for 20 years. He and his wife, Muriel, enjoyed many evenings with friends and family dancing the night away at the club.

John was also very active in Canton Youth Hockey; he was involved in coaching and was the treasurer. John was the chairman of the building committee and president of St. James Lutheran Church in Canton. He was an avid reader, historian and enjoyed gardening. He loved time spent in Maine and took great pride in caring for his beach.

To John, family was everything. He loved the time he spent with them, especially with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nothing made him happier than seeing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren splashing in the water and enjoying themselves at his beloved “camp.” He looked forward to spending time with family and friends and recounting stories of his life’s adventures. More importantly, he was a great listener and always made others feel valued and important. John was a caring and loving man who will be sorely missed by all who were blessed to have known him. He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word.

He was the beloved husband of the late Muriel L. (Grabau) Johnson. Loving father of Linda Johnson of Canton and Frank Johnson and his wife, Mary Ann, of East Bridgewater. Devoted “Grandpa” of Eric Johnson and his wife, Laura, Alicia Edkin and her husband, Bruce, and Brian Johnson and his wife, Crystal. Cherished “Grandpa John” to nine loving great-grandchildren.

John’s family will honor and remember him with a private service and burial. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made in John’s name to a charity or organization of their choice. Arrangements under the direction of Cartwright Funeral Home, Randolph.
