Govostes, Paul Peter

By

Captain Paul Peter Govostes, 72, of Canton, formerly of Reading, passed away peacefully with his loving cat, Sweetie, by his side.

Born in Cambridge on July 15, 1948, Paul graduated from Reading Memorial High School then attended Huntington Preparatory School.

Paul had a love of the ocean, and it grew as he joined the U.S. Merchant Marines where he attained the rank of captain. He procured many pilot licenses and became a marine coast pilot for the eastern seaboard, including the Cape Cod Canal, Boston Harbor and Long Island Sound to name a few.

Paul began his career with Dunkin’ Donuts in 1983 and became a franchise owner. His humble beginnings of baking led to his first satellite location in Charlestown, which ultimately led him to successfully grow the network to the 10 Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants that operate to this day.

Paul is survived by his loving sister and brother-in-law, Debra and Ted Foundas of Canton, his niece Hallie Foundas, his aunt Mary Smith of Williamsburg, cousins Dr. James Smith of Albany, NY, Greg Smith of Williamsburg, Denise Frilot of Hemet, CA, and Rene Frilot of Hemet, CA.

He was preceded by his mother and stepfather, Alice and Harold Crockett, his father, Captain Peter Govostes, brother Captain John Govostes, and niece Alexa Foundas.

Services and interment were private. Arrangements by the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street. For complete obituary and to sign guestbook, see dockrayandthomashome.com.
