CFD responds to two-car crash, dumpster fire

By

Canton firefighters responded to a two-car accident in the vicinity of 960 Turnpike Street on Monday, January 20, at 7:15 a.m.

Fire Lt. Tom Norton said firefighters, upon arrival, found a vehicle on its roof. Norton said the occupant of the overturned car was able to remove themselves from the vehicle prior to the firefighters’ arrival. Ambulance 2 evaluated the driver and transported the victim to the hospital with minor injuries. Ambulance 1 transported the occupant of the other vehicle to the hospital with minor injuries. Engine 4 remained on scene until 8:15 a.m. while the cars were removed and the road was cleaned of debris and vehicle fluids.

In another incident last week, Norton said firefighters responded to a dumpster fire at 300 Pine Street on Wednesday, January 22, at around 7 p.m. Firefighters reported a 30-yard construction dumpster fully involved in fire. Crews initially went to deck gun operations to extinguish the main body of fire. Ladder 1 arrived and set up a water source from the nearest fire hydrant and the fire was extinguished. Crews remained on scene until 8:15 p.m. overhauling and putting out hot spots.

For the week ending January 26, the Fire Department responded to 74 requests for service and no opioid calls. During the week of January 13-20, CFD Emergency Medical Services successfully administered Narcan to a 31-year-old female and a 20-year-old male.

Absentee ballots available for Presidential Primary

According to Town Clerk Tracy Kenney, absentee ballots for the March 3 Presidential Primary are now available. The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot is Monday, March 2, at noon. Absentee ballots are available for registered voters who will be unable to vote at the polls on Primary Day due to absence from the town during normal polling hours (7 a.m. to 8 p.m.), physical disability preventing them from going to the polling place, or religious beliefs. Registered voters must fill out an absentee ballot application, which will allow them to complete a ballot at the Town Clerk’s office or to have an absentee ballot mailed to them. All completed absentee ballots must be received at the Town Clerk’s office by the close of polls on Primary Day.

Town Hall is handicapped accessible and there is an ADA-compliant ballot marking device available in the Town Clerk’s office which provides autonomy to voters who may have a disability or condition that makes it difficult to traditionally mark a ballot. For more information, call 781-821-5013.
