CHS alum coordinates inaugural girls hockey jamboree

The Boston Junior Terriers, who play out of the Canton Sportsplex, skated away with a first-place trophy at the inaugural BELIEVE Girls Only U-8 Hockey Jamboree held January 12 at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester.
The jamboree was hosted by the newly formed Junior Crusaders Girls Hockey program under the leadership of Mike Chisholm, a Canton native and CHS graduate. Chisholm, who played for the Bulldogs under the legendary Buddy Yandle, now lives in central Massachusetts and is helping to lead the effort to better establish girls hockey in the region. His daughter, Katie, is a player on the Junior Crusaders, who placed second at the jamboree.
“At the U-8 level, all-girls hockey teams are not that common, so they usually play against co-ed or boys teams,” said Chisholm. “This event gives the all-girls teams the opportunity to play against other all-girls programs in Southern New England.”
A total of eight teams participated in Sunday’s jamboree, including the Junior Terriers, Junior Crusaders, Connecticut Ice Cats (Fairfield County, CT), Connecticut Northern Lights (Hartford County, CT), Shoreline Sharks (New Haven County, CT), Acton Boxboro Concord Carlisle (Middlesex County), and the North Central Massachusetts Sting.
Players from the Holy Cross women’s ice hockey team volunteered their time to help both on and off the ice. “The opportunity to interact with these accomplished athletes and students added an exciting dimension to the experience of the girls playing in the jamboree,” said Chisholm.
