Election News: Lisa Lopez to run for BOS

By

Lisa Lopez announced today she is returning to the campaign trail, resuming her mission to join Canton’s five member Board of Selectmen when two positions will be up for election on April 7, 2020.

“I came very, very close to a win last year, and it was one of the most fun and exciting things I’ve been a part of,” Lopez said. “Our campaign helped double the voter turnout from the year before. We aim to double it again this year!”

Lopez, a 37-year resident, has served the town in many capacities while raising her three children and balancing a busy full-time career as chief legal officer and business executive at Haemonetics Corporation. Now retired, though working part-time as a pro-bono immigration attorney as well as director and chairman of the Compensation Committee of Boston-based Radius Bank, she remains active in Canton affairs. A leader in Canton’s campaign to enact the Community Preservation Act, she has been chairman or vice chairman of Canton’s Community Preservation Committee since 2012.

“The Community Preservation Committee has delivered on its promise to Canton,” Lopez said. “It has shepherded dozens of community projects through town meeting approval, including playgrounds, tennis and basketball courts, preservation efforts at our historic structures, cemeteries and community housing, and the town’s signature Paul Revere Heritage Site, which added more coveted green space near to Canton’s downtown. I could not be more proud of what Canton’s accomplished.”

Lopez currently chairs both the Open Space and Revenue Sources Committees of the Paul Revere Heritage Commission.

Lopez is also an active town meeting member and member of St. Gerard Majella Parish, including past roles as lector, CCD instructor, and members of the Parish Council and Finance Council. Last year she helped lead the successful effort to win town-wide support to rebuild Canton’s town pool at Bolivar Street, which remains on schedule to open in the summer of 2020.

Lopez is a graduate of the Ohio State University and Yale Law School. In 2018 she was named — with her husband, Victor Del Vecchio — Blue Hills Civic Association Citizens of the Year.

Lopez will hold a campaign kickoff event on January 30 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Waterfall Bar & Grille at 643 Washington Street. Learn more and join the campaign at www.lisalopez2020.com.
